Living Room Update!

It's been a few weeks since the undertaking of this back breaking, marriage testing renovation but finally its nearly complete just painting to be done :)  and happy to report were still married 😀

We were hoping to find a beam that went to whole way across the front of the house but of course nothing is ever that simple :(  Unfortunately no beam so we had to brace everything up and put a beam in......Lucky hubby knows what he is doing and has all the equipment.

And to add to our luck it started to rain! No water ended up coming inside which was good, it was just annoying working under a green tarp.

Once the brace was put up we could take the old timbers out and take down the bricks. As Matt made them loose I moved them in to a pile.......I don't know how bricklayer's do that all day! my fingers 😣

Cutting the frame out

Framing up for the new door

New beam is in! My hubby and I put the beam in by ourselves and what a job that was if we had a lifting machine it wouldn't have been such a time consuming task.

New framing for the door all done

It was about 9 pm by the time the to door went in, we were so exhausted! We had to also lift it up on to the veranda from 3 meters below 😨 we ended up using 2 long beams and took the hand railing out and sliding it up on to the veranda.

Shot from the inside

Shot from the outside

Gyprock/ dry wall all done

Matt doing the trims

Nearly all finished, I have since gap filled, sanded and painted the trims and eventually I'll paint the doors white but I'll wait till the outside is cement rendered otherwise white doors with brick will look a bit silly :)

Total cost of this project was about $200 for the trims and gyprock We had all the base coat and top coat left over from another renno we did.
we brought the door 2nd hand off Gumtree for $80!!! I know right bargain or the year :)

We are still looking for a fireplace for this room once we find it we can finish the room :)
